Intestinal Detoxification

Hey Guys,

This blog is part 1 on the topic of detoxification or as we Trinis know it "ah clean out". 

As a child, as certain as there was a dry season and a wet season, and Easter Vacation and August Holidays there was ,the dreaded back to school "clean out". 

Hear nah Da Rosa.. this "clean out" thing was a serious affair inno. Come the week before school re-opened my granny would start saying things like... "look at heats you have.. yuh need ah clean out", "school opening jus now, yuh need ah purge" and would proceed to buy a pack of the Senna leaves in the green and white pack and place it casually on the kitchen counter. As the vacation days wound down, she would pull out the "old pot" and put the senna leaves to boil and then leave it in the pot on the kitchen counter to draw...sigh



Then bright and early on purge day the tone in granny's voice would change as she called me for my purge. This was ah battle of the will... all of ah sudden the yard hadda sweep and the dog hadda bathe and the bathroom hadda to scrub... every chore I hated doing became the best thing to drinking senna.

Of course granny had to call several times and was getting mad at my delayed response. Her final shout came as follows " boy if yuh doh come here right now crapaud smoke yuh pipe"... well that was the game changer... licks for not drinking senna? Nope, it did not make sense. Granny would beat me and I would still have to drink it anyway. Sigh
