Alternative Medicines

Hey Guys,

Welcome to my Blog on Alternative Medicine πŸ˜€

Anyone who grew up in a small community with a granny or tanty close by know what it is to drink "bush tea".... fever grass - lemon grass if yuh stush😀- chandelier, christmas bush, vervine and zebipique to name a few.

Then yuh had the tea made from leaves - sour-sop, bay-leaf, moringa, and the dreaded sennaπŸ˜–πŸ˜...then yuh had the infamous garlic, ginger and the "King" of all tea... the dried orange peel tea.

Hear nah.....there was not a house in my area that didn't have orange peel hung in a dark cupboard or in the wire/plastic vegetable basket thing in the corner of the kitchen drying. It was an offence punishable by licks if you threw away orange peel when orange was in season. It was the cure for almost everything.. from ah headache to gasπŸ˜€.

To anyone growing up before 1989,alternative medicine was the norm. There was ah "uncle" who used to "jharay", and a "tanty" who knew which bush to use for every illness. Nowadays, we go to the "spa for a massage and me time" and to the Doctor for a tablet for every little thing. Don't get me wrong here... Doctors and tablets are necessary to ensure we remain healthy but "too much of one is good for nothing"!!!!

As the generations changed, natural medicines have become less and less important. However, within recent times it has been revitalized given the amount of complications being associated with pharmaceutical drugs.

I am writing this blog to share some insights into alternative/natural medicines and to dispel some of the misconceptions surrounding this topic.

Let's get started with a brief definition of what is Alternative Medicine.
