Complementary and Alternative Medicines
Hey guys,
I was talking to a friend of mine recently in a maxi heading for doubles when they confused the "bejesus" out of me. They were telling me about complementary and alternative medicines. I was like... huh😖.. wah d bleep.......😕....Now at the time that we were talking I was quite hungry and annoyed cuz she was going on and on about these things.....when all I wanted was 4 doubles with heavy sweet sauce and slight pepper.....so I really wasn't paying much attention to her..
Nevertheless... after I had my 5 doubles from by Sauce in Curepe,.. yes 5 doubles.... I became curious about the differences between them so I decided to do some research into complementary and alternative medicines myself.
Now according to the National Cancer Centre, "complementary medicine is treatments that are used ALONG WITH standard medical treatments but are not considered to be standard treatments, whilst alternative medicine is treatments that are used INSTEAD OF standard medical treatments".
Simply put, if yuh still taking the tablet the doctor give yuh but yuh going by "Uncle Beddoe" for a "Jharay" or massage, the "Jharay" is complementary medicine however, if yuh din take the tablets at all but yuh went by Ms. Mavis for bush to make tea and yuh buy scented candles and incense to smell up yuh house, you are using alternative medicine.
So below I have identified a few examples of alternative and complementary medicines for your ease of reference:
Acupuncture Deep breathing
Aromatherapy Chiropractic
Naturopathy Meditation
Reflexology Massage
Diet Homeopathy
Now it have plenty others that I left out but you can do your own research.
I will try my best to talk about some of these in subsequent posts.
Hope this blog was helpful 😁

ALL ABOARD THE ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE TRAIN
I've had some "complementary herb medicine" of my own and they worked! Next time do a bit of research (in Trini terms - ask de old folks) about the power of the flowers of the hibiscus and find out how it helps with the flu virus; then ask a bit more into the old fashion healing of a "little" nutmeg and a "little" star anise. Nice job!
